The Data

There is a significant data gap in what we know about Canadians and their vision status. Implementing a national data infrastructure to collect and share critical information about vision health would allow for improved systems and equitable care delivery.

Many Canadian studies have identified a lack of high-quality national data as a major limitation, with researchers often relying on self-reported metrics and extrapolating data from U.S. rates to the Canadian population.

We cannot develop adequate solutions without fully understanding the problem. Our efforts may be informed by global data, but ultimately, we have need for broad-based data collection across the country.
